Fore Finger Grip

Fore Finger Grip Image

This variation of the hammer grip applies pressure with the fore finger at or ahead of the knife's center of gravity. The result is a very slow rotation rate that permits one to produce 1/2 turn throws at distances varying from 12 to 20 feet depending on the length of the knife. Only some knives, those with simple profiles like the 12" Karp shown seem suitable for this grip. This is also a risky grip. If your finger should slip to either side of the spine on release, the knife will revert to a more normal rotation rate!
