Roman Sling Bullets


The following picture comes to us courtesy of James Burdine

This illustration comes from the book THE MAKING OF THE ROMAN EMPIRE:FROM REPUBLIC TO EMPIRE, by Lawrence Keppie. It was found on page 124 and was titled slingbullets from Perusia. With quotes "average about 40mm in length, and 10- 15 mm in diameter,tapering to a point at both ends." No weights are mentioned, but in THE SLING AS A WEAPON by Manfred Korfman lists the weights of lead sling bullets at about 20grams to 47 grams.

Ed. Note: The weight given above seems a little light. 75-150 grams seems a better weight range for all the experiments I've done...
