This illustration comes from the book THE MAKING OF THE ROMAN
EMPIRE:FROM REPUBLIC TO EMPIRE, by Lawrence Keppie. It was found on
page 124 and was titled slingbullets from Perusia. With quotes "average
about 40mm in length, and 10- 15 mm in diameter, tapering to a point at
both ends." No weights are mentioned, but in THE SLING AS A WEAPON by
Manfred Korfman lists the weights of lead sling bullets at about 20grams
to 47 grams.
Ed. Note: The weight given above seems a little light. 75-150 grams seems a better weight range for all the experiments I've done... |
